Charge $10 per second for blocking the box in intersections at rush hour. It’s criminal some fool can hold up several buses of commuters like this. You are making 300 people late! Driving should require a *professional license* and a degree in traffic flow, politeness and efficient fuel use.
Alternatively outfit all public buses with monster truck wheels.
@futurebird Actually yes!
@futurebird Or snowplows.
@futurebird maybe give the bus some huge snow plow shove thingies upfront and the ability to temporarily decouple the aft sections like a truck. It should have plenty of power to clear a path, pick up the passengers again, and be on its way.
@futurebird busses need dedicated lanes. Why should they be stuck in traffic with single passenger vehicles. It disincentives public transportation use which is meant to efficiently move many people at once.
@BLTpizza @futurebird Dedicated lanes don't solve intersection blocking, because the cars still have to cross the dedicated lanes at intersections. (Source: I live in Paris where buses have dedicated lanes and intersection blocking is a very real thing here as well.)
@GabrielKerneis @futurebird true. That's why the busses need monster truck tires as the op said. Seriously, do the penalties increase for repeat offenses? Having cars impounded after the second offense would increase public transportation ridership
@futurebird Bus drivers should be able to write traffic citations
@futurebird intersections? Nah. Do it for the whole 10m directly in front of the bus regardless of whether an intersection is nearby.
