New on the Animal Toy Blog. A bizarre and rather creepy looking bottlenose dolphin by AAA: https://animaltoyforum.com/blog/bottlenose-dolphin-aaa/
"Sinister, nightmarish, unsettling. These are adjectives that describe this 23” bottlenose dolphin by AAA."
@AdamStuartSmith I dunno, I for one am happy to see more realistic wildlife. I think the Disneyfication of wildlife has done more harm than good, causing people to behave irresponsibly around wild animals.
@Litzz11 I agree with you in principle. Indeed, the Animal Toy Blog is all about analysing and celebrating anatomical accuracy in animal toys.
However, this particular dolphin is inaccurate in many unusual ways. If you read the full review you'll see it isn't a realistic dolphin at all. Which is why we are poking a little fun at it.
@AdamStuartSmith
@LordGeekington , check out this sea monster!
@llewelly @AdamStuartSmith It has vibes like those early reconstructions of mesoplodonts only known from decayed carcasses… but surely Sea World has the resources to communicate what dolphins look like??!
@LordGeekington @AdamStuartSmith
hm
maybe the artist was trying to convey the plight of dolphins at sea world ...
ok probably not. But you never know.
@llewelly @LordGeekington @AdamStuartSmith Or the artist… was the dolphins! Oh man, that’s just the perfect italicized ending for the story I’m apparently going to have to write now.
@LordGeekington @AdamStuartSmith
the artist who poured their wretched, tortured soul into this cry for help ...
@AdamStuartSmith
I have an alternative hypothesis about the "cracked skin" on the dolphin. What if the "cracks" were meant to represent rivulets of water streaming off the dolphin's skin as it rises up out of the water?
Either way, the effect is creepy, but I wonder about the original intent here.
@llewelly Hmm, I'm not sure about that, they look too prominent to be water streams. But maybe. That could've been the intention and they just did a bad job.
It's an unusual design choice either way!
@AdamStuartSmith
yeah, they probably are too prominent for that. Also, that wouldn't explain the ones on the bottom. Although it has a lot fewer on the bottom.
@AdamStuartSmith give it osteoderms and remove upper lip tissue and you get a jurassic world dolphin
all kidding aside i genuinely want one of these lel
