Look what arrived!

An original, sealed box release of #SuSE #Linux 8.1 Professional, from the year 2002!

I grabbed it off of eBay for a small price and it arrived quickly.

My plan is to take my 2001 laptop, the Fujitsu #Lifebook E6550, and without using the internet and just by consulting the manual and disks in the box, set up an authentic contemporary Linux system.

... as an #LGR-style video for #PeerTube!

I remember the heated debates on SCSI vs PCI in 1990s personal computers ... and today I learned that the _real_ PCI is a Panel Call Indicator. And I now know how it sounds!

I've also found out about the Evan Doorbell tapes.

The perfect way to start the week!

That's why the world needs Mastodon.

Thank you, Connections Museum. So glad to have discovered you.

Turning to the #mastodonHiveMind. #HelpMeFind the name of an #mp3player I had back in the late 90s (maybe early 00s?).

I've looked through pages of image search results. Poured through eBay. Toured the #vintageTech & #portableSound articles & forums.

I mocked up what I remember. Device was this rounded, pear-ish shape. That soft matte black plastic. Screen on the top. Had buttons on the top edges. I think there was an SD slot at the bottom. Maybe buttons on front below screen?

Any insight?

🛩️ Ah yes, the #nostalgia of pixelated clouds and virtual turbulence, brought to you by an #Atari aficionado who only just discovered this groundbreaking '80s masterpiece on Facebook Marketplace. 🎮 In true retro fashion, let's celebrate the tech equivalent of a floppy disk—because nothing screams cutting-edge like a game that’s been 'kept alive' by #Microsoft. 👾

Does anyone know anything about the Creative Zen Micro? Specifically, what to do if the screen is barely functioning?

I found mine the other day, and got it working, sort of (as I wanted to listen to mp3/mp4 files without uploading them to a server somewhere).

It seems to function - battery works, I can access files via my laptop - but the screen is super-faded and so I can't really use the interface. 😭

Anyone??

While it's probably impossible to know the last CRT ever made by anyone, we do know what the last CRT made by certain companies are, including Sony. 19 years ago, Sony introduced its curtain call CRTs. #retrogaming #retrocomputing #SonyCRT #VintageTech #Nostalgia dfarq.homeip.net/the-last-sony
