Looking for people here writing about #experimentalmusic #aesthetics #philosophy and similar topics. :)
Here’s the album we did together last year.
New #intro!
I’m a hyperjack musician, writer & video artist. My latest album, ‘Status’, is mainly about escaping Big Tech dystopia.
My website https://meljoann.com includes nerdy blog posts on Faircamp, Owncast & leaving mainstream social media.
Some stuff I love:
And here's the results of the mp3 glitching script (https://reillyspitzfaden.com/posts/2025/04/databending-part-3/) played with the MuBu concatenative synthesis tools in Max/MSP
I'm analyzing the file based on transients, sorting the segments according to loudness (Y axis) and average frequency of the spectrum (X axis), then playing through those segments using those groupings
Here's a demo of the mp3 glitching script I wrote about here: https://reillyspitzfaden.com/posts/2025/04/databending-part-3/
I added a batch script so I can take in a bunch of folders of .wav files, use ffmpeg to convert them to mp3 (and try out different bitrates), glitch them, re-encode those as .wav (easier to work with), and then clean up all the intermediate mp3s.
My first 100% modular track in a while.

Here is a moment from the larger work in progress, another track drafted in stylistic exploration. As honest as I can be, pulling on these threads of me.
All of what I do has acoustic instruments somewhere, but there is a nice electro-acoustic element to this one, kinda gives it a storybook feel or like the overture for a space opera.
Yesterday, I made an honest-to-God tape loop, for the first time ever.
I'd upload the video, but I don't feel like taking up 36megs on sfba.social, so you'll have to believe me when I tell you it sounds great.
Hopefully, it (and many other loops) will be included in future releases, at which point I'll jump up and down and yell TAPE LOOPS!
I've wanted to learn how to do this for years.

My debut album was released five years ago today...
...but I don't feel like getting nostalgic.
I have a new album out.
I'm continuing my databending series of blog posts. Today we'll discuss how to use Python to easily glitch up MP3s, adding warbles, clicks, and other cool noise!
