Another lil guy from yesterday! Get yourself a pet ceratopsian to keep you company and play fetch forever ️
The ornate horns of #Lokiceratops point to evolutionary insights https://phys.org/news/2024-06-ornate-horns-ancient-marvel-lokiceratops.html
Lokiceratops rangiformis gen. et sp. nov. from the #Campanian Judith River Formation of #Montana reveals rapid regional radiations and extreme #endemism within centrosaurine #dinosaurs https://peerj.com/articles/17224/
"This new #dinosaur pushes the envelope on bizarre #ceratopsian headgear, sporting the largest frill horns ever seen in a ceratopsian"
A knight errant riding a Styracosaurus. Inspired by some recent thoughts about what dinosaurs would make the best knightly mounts.
#Protoceratops skull! This wasn’t meant to be accurate at all, it was just meant to be #aesthetic
Leave a comment if there’s any other #skulls you wanna see!
Furcatoceratops: Beast of the Week http://prehistoricbeastoftheweek.blogspot.com/2023/12/furcatoceratops-beast-of-week.html #paleoart by Christopher DiPiazza
"#Furcatoceratops had two horns growing from above its eyes that are quite close together, basically parallel to each other. This is unusual compared to the brow horns of other #ceratopsian #dinosaurs, which tend to grow angled away from each other. Furcatoceratops also had a series of small, triangular horns growing from the perimeter of its frill."
Protoceratops. An illustrated breakup of the process showing 3 steps: lineart, flats, final. Personal work.
I've just realized I totally forgot to listen to @KateShaw 's most recent episode of strange animals podcast:
https://strangeanimalspodcast.blubrry.net/2023/09/04/episode-344-psittacosaurus/
it was a very good episode about psittacosaurus.
Good morning. Here is a Pentaceratops from my sketchbook.
Made with an ink pen and shitty wax based colored pencils I have lying around.
For this #FossilFriday, check out this lovely skull of Kosmoceratops housed at the Natural History Museum of Utah! 75-million years ago, this animal and a surprising variety of other unique ceratopsians called the humid Kaiparowits Formation home.

Any of my paleo and paleoart friends have good resources for finding era and location specific flora/vegetation? Looking to add some late cretaceous New Mexico plants, including early flowers, to go with this Pentaceratops WIP.
Dusty arid lands: Udanoceratops tschizhovi chases a large Avimimus portentosus out of its dusty territory. Late Cretaceous of Asia. Concept sketch
Ceratopsians of Late Cretaceous arid Asia: Udanoceratops (left) and a couple of Protoceratops (right). 4 hr concept sketch, exploring ideas
I don’t really like the composition (I did not rough sketch it first) but once I started to work on it but it was a good opportunity to explore ideas of how to make something like this work better in a future illustration
After talking with @colectivopixel , I went down a rabbit hole of experimenting with negative space, testing how its variation affects the perception of low resolution pixel art. Here are a couple of before and after examples: A blue (don't ask me why) ceratopsian dinosaur and a sad Homer looking at the stars.
Any thoughts are welcome.

My drawing of the basal #ceratopsian #Protoceratops andrewsi, from the Late #Cretaceous. This is a weirdly proportioned animal even by ceratopsian standards, with a huge head, incredibly deep snout, very short torso, and tall neural spines creating a hump along the middle of the tail. #dinosaurs #palaeoart
