@futurebird the point of sex in passports is physical identification, just like height and eye color. It's not very good, but the point of that particular box is "if I lifted the skirt, what would I see?"
That box should change after reassignment surgery.
Personally, I think the whole "we need gendered everything" is about as useful as "we need racially segregated everything," but in the case of passports, I think it's morphology, not gender.
Adding public comments might still be good, though
