Was it called The Deparment/Ministry of Military in any country? "of War" sounds inaccurate insofar it also deals with things such as posturing while not at war.

@futurebird Better yet... We weren't supposed to have a standing military in the first place. Washington warned us. It's hugely expensive and it's a constant temptation to use military force in unnecessary wars instead of soft power. For generations, we had the US militias (now known as the National Guard) as our sole military (and the sole purpose of the 2nd Amendment). Now we spend more on our military than the next 10 countries combined, and most of those are allies.
